Dwaine Pretorius has pulled up with a hamstring strain and has been released from the bubble. CSA hasn’t replaced him in the squad because they believe they have a big enough squad.
The injury took place during a team practice session at Six Gun Grill Newlands and is expected to take three to four weeks for recovery.
The all-rounder has been released from the bio bubble and will return to the Lions squad. This leaves the Proteas with only one seamer all-rounder in Andile Phehlukwayo, while there is some depth in the spin-bowling all-rounder department – Jon-Jon Smuts, George Linde.
Dr Shuaib Manjra spoke to the media on Thursday and confirmed the information with members of the media.
He also mentioned that the two players who tested positive last week were not part of the tested group and remain in isolation and are being monitored closely. They are progressing well and are in good health.
The hosts did their final round of testing this morning (Thursday) with the expectation of receiving results later in the evening – an update will be provided when the results are confirmed.
The reasoning for not naming players was sited by Dr Manjra has got to do with doctor-patient confidentiality.
He stated that if a player wants to announce it to the public, they have the right to do so, but as an organisation, there are barriers that prevent them from the right to name them the infected players to the public.
South Africa A team coach, Malibongwe Maketa has also joined the Proteas camp as extra cover to assist the team.
The Proteas take on England in the first T20I against England on Friday 27 November. The game will be live on SuperSport.
