We wrap-up another exciting round of the One Day Cup 2019/20 competition.
Dolphins vs Lions
The confidence levels were high in the Dolphins camp after winning six of the seven matches they played. The only loss being to the Cobras during the third round of fixtures.
They bowled out the Lions in 49.3 overs for a total of 244 runs. Wihan Lubbe’s 85 off 91 being the top-score of the match.
Marques Ackerman’s 54 off 61 saw the Dolphins register their seventh win of the competition.
Titans vs Warriors
This was our MODC Clash of the Week.
At home, the Titans opted to bat first which was a no brainer considering that they had a mouthwatering batting line-up which included Proteas batsmen Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis and Dean Elgar.
Tony de Zorzi is on a form of his life this season. He blasted a second century of the season and was joined by Elgar who fell seven runs short off a second ton this season. The Titans posted a mammoth 332-4 in their fifty overs.
Eddie Moore seems to enjoy batting against the Titans, over the years he’s been consistently scoring big runs against the Sky Blues.
Having scored a match-winning ton in the same fixture at St Georges Park in February, the opener put the Titans bowlers to the sword once again. His run-a-ball 107 helped the Warriors win the match with only one ball remaining.
A special mention to Lesiba Ngoepe (79 off 64), Mathew Breetzke (65 off 71) and Sisanda Magala (27 off 18).
Cobras vs Knights
The Cobras came into this game desperate for a positive result after losing all of their previous four matches.
Playing on a turning wicket at the Recreation ground in Oudtshoorn, the home side had Tsepo Ndwandwa come-in in place of George Linde who’s in the Proteas ODI squad that’s touring India.
But it was the opposition spinner who took full advantage of the conditions to restrict the Cobras to 172-9 in 50 overs. Shaun von Berg claiming figures of 3-23 (in 10 overs).
Akhona Mnyaka (2-33 in 7 overs) and Ndwandwa (1-38 in 5 overs) were the only bowlers to pick up wickets as Patrick Kruger (60 off 47) blasted his team to a bonus-point victory, handing the Cobras their fifth consecutive loss.
A special mention to Mgijima for an unbeaten, defiant knock of 44 off 74 which included one boundary.
Warriors vs Dolphins
The Warriors batted first at Buffalo Park, Eddie Moore and Mathew Breetzke got the Warriors to a good start with a 51-runs opening stand before Moore was run-out by Sarel Erwee on 19 off 22.
Breetzke went on to register a second consecutive half-century before he lost his wicket on 55 off 61.
The Warriors middle-order failed to convert their starts to big runs.
But 20-year-old Jade de Klerk came to the rescue as he scored a maiden #MODC half-century to lead the Warriors to 293-9 in their fifty overs.
The Dolphins didn’t start their run-chase positively as Grant Roelofsen and Erwee opening partnership only lasted seven overs.
Half-centuries from Roelofsen and Cody Chetty were not enough to prevent the Warriors from registering a second win of the week.
Lions vs Titans
The Lions batted first at the Bullring and they didn’t find it easy at all.
The Titans bowlers were superb with the ball. They restricted the Lions to 205-7 in their fifty overs.
Alfred Mothoa finished with figures of 3-36 in his 10 overs spell.
Aiden Markram has been in good touch since returning from a lengthy injury.
He backed-up the century in the first match of his return with a composed century against the Lions to secure a win for the Titans.
Here’s how the table looks like after this week’s round:

3. Warriors | 9 | 19 |
