After becoming the fastest South African to 50 wickets in ODIs, Lungi Ngidi (6/58) completed a maiden five-for to help restrict Australia to 271, writes Khalid Mohidin.

The Proteas speedster, since his return, has gradually reached full bowling fitness and has improved from game to game.

In his 26th match, Ngidi became the quickest South African to 50 wickets. He finished with incredible figures of 6/58 which is now his career-best figures.

Ngidi was also responsible for other Australia big guns – he removed Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummin, to consistently kill Australia’s momentum.

Anrich Nortje was also exquisite bowling at an alarming pace on what was described as a flat deck. He took out Australia’s skipper at the perfect time, to reduce them to 158/4, Aaron Finch edging the Proteas quick after a well-played 69 off 87 deliveries. He finished with 2/59.

Tabraiz Shamsi removed Australia’s other dangerman after grafting away, D’Arcy Short out for an 83-ball 69.

The Proteas dismissed Australia for 271, leaving the hosts in a strong position to wrap up the series.
