The Proteas lost the opening T20I to Australia by 107 runs in an embarrassing performance at the Wanderers, writes Naeemah Benjamin.

Captain Aaron Finch and Steve Smith shared in an 80-run stand for the second wicket after Dale Steyn struck early removing David Warner off his second delivery.

Short and wide was what the Proteas bowlers dished out and the Australians were more than happy to oblige as the ball raced along to the ropes at the Bullring as the duo got the visitors off to a blistering start being 70/1 after the powerplay.

The SA bowlers were not disciplined at all but picked up wickets at crucial stages especially after the flying start Australia got off to.

Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers for the home side finishing with figures of 2/31.

He dismissed Finch for 42 (27) which included 6 fours and 1 six before he also picked up the important wicket of Smith who top scored with 45 (32) including 5 fours and 1 six with De Kock during the rest.

The Proteas were bowled out for 89.
