Quinton de Kock’s fourth half-century of the series failed to dampen the embarrassing first-innings batting display by the Proteas which saw them skittled for 183 against England in the fourth Test, writes Khalid Mohidin from the Wanderers.
The 26-year-old, fresh off being named ODI captain, stood tall after the Proteas lost members of their top six and nightwatchman Anrich Nortje for 93 runs.
With the help of Dwaine Pretorius, the pair strung together the biggest partnership of the match, with the aim to avoid the follow on.
Eight minutes from lunch, Pretorius (37) edged a Ben Stokes delivery to the slips to end their 79-run partnership.
De Kock (76) was then removed by a beautiful inswinger from Mark Wood which clipped the top of middle stump.
He played beautifully showing off his talent with glorious cut shots, pull shots and drives.
The Proteas were dismissed for 183. Wood starred for England with 5/46.
