The Proteas completed a dominant 3-0 ODI series sweep over Namibia with a commanding nine-wicket victory in the third ODI in Windhoek on Sunday.

Captain Bjorn Fortuin produced career-best ODI figures of 4/33 as South Africa bowled Namibia out for 156 in 36.2 overs before Jordan Hermann and Connor Esterhuizen combined for a 150-run opening partnership to make light work of the chase.

South Africa reached 157/1 in just 21.3 overs, sealing victory with 171 balls remaining.

Namibia elected to bat first, but South Africa’s attack made early inroads.

Corbin Bosch struck in the fourth over when Michael van Lingen was caught by Kwena Maphaka for two before Maphaka produced a full delivery that went through Jan Frylinck’s defence to leave Namibia 19/2.

Alexander Busing-Volschenk and Louren Steenkamp steadied the innings with a 53-run partnership, taking the hosts to 72/2.

Fortuin then took control.

The Proteas captain bowled Steenkamp for 23 before Busing-Volschenk was run out for 31 from the very next delivery.

Fortuin removed Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus for three in his following over and then trapped Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton lbw for four as Namibia collapsed from 72/2 to 90/6.

Nqabayomzi Peter joined the wickets column when he dismissed Ruben Trumpelmann for 13 before Fortuin claimed his fourth, bowling Waldo Smith for two to complete career-best figures of 4/33 from his 10 overs.

Peter removed Jack Brassell for three, leaving Namibia 125/9, before a late burst from Max Heingo briefly frustrated the Proteas.

Heingo struck an unbeaten 20 from just six deliveries, including two fours and two sixes, as Namibia pushed their total to 156.

Maphaka eventually completed the innings by dismissing Zane Green for 33, finishing with 2/18 from 5.2 overs. Peter claimed 2/39, while Corbin Bosch took 1/24.

South Africa’s response was emphatic.

Hermann, who scored 150 on ODI debut in the opening match of the series, continued his impressive start to international cricket alongside Esterhuizen.

The pair brought up their 50-run partnership from 45 deliveries before South Africa raced to 62/0 at the end of the first Powerplay.

Hermann reached his half-century from just 39 balls, with nine fours, as the opening pair brought up their century partnership in the 15th over.

Esterhuizen soon joined him with a half-century of his own, reaching the milestone from 53 deliveries.

The pair continued to attack Namibia’s bowlers and brought up their 150-run partnership from 125 balls with South Africa just seven runs away from victory.

Hermann was eventually bowled by Waldo Smith for 77 from 59 deliveries, having struck 13 fours.

It was Namibia’s only breakthrough.

Dewald Brevis arrived and struck a six from his second delivery to complete the chase, while Esterhuizen finished unbeaten on 68 from 68 balls, with four fours and three sixes.

South Africa’s nine-wicket victory completed a 3-0 series sweep and brought a successful tour of Namibia to a dominant conclusion.
