Schalk Engelbrecht claimed a five-wicket haul as South Africa Emerging completed an innings-and-16-run victory over Bangladesh Emerging in the second unofficial Test at Willowmoore Park on Wednesday.

The result secured the two-match series 1-0 for South Africa Emerging after the opening match ended without a winner.

Having posted a commanding 497/8 declared in their first innings, the hosts dismissed Bangladesh Emerging for 271 before enforcing the follow-on.

Bangladesh Emerging resumed the final day on 94/3, still facing a significant deficit, with captain Iftakhar Hossain Ifti unbeaten on 38 and Chowdhury Md Rizwan on 19.

The pair offered resistance, but Engelbrecht eventually broke the partnership when he removed Rizwan for 28.

Ifti continued to battle, reaching 59 from 153 deliveries before becoming Engelbrecht’s next victim with the score on 136/5.

Aminul Islam added 13 before Engelbrecht struck again, while Moin Khan fell for eight as the spinner continued to work through the middle and lower order.

Md Abdullah provided Bangladesh Emerging with one final piece of resistance, scoring 44 from 56 balls, including eight fours.

However, wickets continued to fall around him.

Andile Simelane removed Ashraful Hasan Rohan for one and Mehedi Hasan for seven before Siya Plaatjie dismissed Abdullah to end the innings at 210 in 74 overs.

Engelbrecht finished as the standout bowler with 5/68 from 23 overs, including seven maidens.

Simelane claimed 2/31, while Plaatjie, Dayyaan Galiem and Janco Smit picked up one wicket apiece.

South Africa Emerging had laid the foundation for the victory with a dominant first-innings batting performance.

JP King led the way with 149 from 225 balls, striking 20 fours and two sixes.

He shared a 101-run opening partnership with Modiri Litheko, who made 46, before continuing to build the innings alongside Valentine Kitime and captain Mitchell van Buuren.

Van Buuren contributed 86 from 164 balls before Daniel Smith and Galiem accelerated the scoring lower down the order.

Smith struck 85 from just 79 deliveries, including 10 fours and a six, while Galiem added 69 from 82 balls with nine fours and two sixes.

Their efforts helped South Africa Emerging declare on 497/8 after 129.5 overs.

Bangladesh Emerging then faced a difficult task in their first innings.

Mahfijul Islam top-scored with 62, while Ifti made 70 and Rizwan contributed 33, but the visitors were dismissed for 271.

Janco Smit led the South African attack with 4/44 from 19 overs, while Simelane picked up 3/59.

Galiem, Engelbrecht and Plaatjie claimed one wicket each as Bangladesh Emerging finished 226 runs behind and were asked to follow on.

The visitors’ second innings began badly when Smit removed Mahfijul Islam for a duck and Galiem dismissed Ashiqur Rahman Shibli for five, leaving Bangladesh Emerging 5/2.

Azizul Hakim made 29 before Engelbrecht removed him, with Bangladesh Emerging ending day three on 94/3.

South Africa Emerging then completed the job on the final day, dismissing the visitors for 210 to seal a comprehensive victory by an innings and 16 runs.
