CSA announces SA Emerging squads for Bangladesh tour

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has unveiled the SA Emerging Women’s and Men’s squads for next month’s all-format home series against Bangladesh Emerging, with a number of Proteas-capped players and some of the country’s brightest young prospects set to feature.

The month-long tour, which runs from 29 July to 26 August, will take place across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng following the conclusion of the 2026 CSA Emerging Academy.

The fixtures form a key part of South Africa’s high-performance pathway, giving the next generation of players valuable international exposure as they continue their development.

Experienced names bolster Emerging Women

The SA Emerging Women’s squad includes seven players who have already represented the Proteas Women at senior international level.

Faye Tunnicliffe, Nondumiso Shangase, Eliz-Mari Marx, Karabo Meso, Seshnie Naidu, Miané Smit and Leah Jones headline a talented 15-player group that also features several players who have impressed at domestic level and in the South African Under-19 system.

The women’s tour begins with a three-match One-Day series before switching to three T20 Internationals, with all six matches taking place at either Chatsworth Oval in Durban or Pietermaritzburg Oval.

Emerging Men split across formats

CSA has named a 20-player SA Emerging Men’s squad, with certain players selected specifically for either the 50-over or four-day formats.

Muhammad Manack, Valentine Kitime, Andile Simelane, Schalk Engelbrecht and Gideon Peters have been selected exclusively for the two four-day matches.

Meanwhile, Gomolemo Phiri, Keagan Lion-Cachet, Andile Mogokane, Janco Smit and Joshua Breed will feature only during the 50-over competition.

The remaining players have been selected across both formats.

The men’s campaign begins with a 50-over Tri-Series involving Bangladesh Emerging and a University Sport South Africa (USSA) XI. The tournament gets underway on 30 July, with the final scheduled for 12 August.

Attention will then turn to the red-ball format, with a two-match four-day series concluding the tour.

Important pathway opportunity

CSA Head of High Performance Grant van Velden believes these tours continue to play an important role in preparing players for higher honours.
