India rode their luck in the first half hour. Jansen took a wicket off a no-ball, and Markram dropped a catch in the slips off Harmer.

The breakthrough came from a double strike from Harmer in the 24th over. He bowled Kuldeep Yadav and enticed the edge of Dhruv Jurel to Markram at slip, who held on this time. India were 43/4.

Harmer struck again after India went past 50, Rishabh Pant edging to Markram at slip. India were 58-5.

India calmed things down and went into tea on 90-5.

Straight after the break, Senuran Muthusamy found Sai Sudharsan’s edge to Markram for his 8th catch of the match. India were 95-6.

India brought up 130, and Harmer struck again, completing his 2nd Test five-for. Washington Sundar edging to Markram for his 9th catch of the match. No player has ever taken 9 catches in a game before. India were 130-7. Harmer finished with 6-37.

Ravindra Jadeja brought up his half-century shortly after.

Nitish Kumar Reddy was the next wicket to fall, Harmer with another, the batter edging to the keeper. India were 138-8.

Maharaj orchestrated the stumping of Jadeja (54), and India were 140-9.

Jansen then took a marvellous diving catch. Siraj went for big shot, Jansen ran back from mid-on, from the sun into the shadows, his eyes on the ball throughout, and he stuck his left hand out with a dive, sealing the series with perfection.

India were all out for 140, and South Africa won the series 2-0 with a 408-run win. This was their second biggest Test victory by margin, behind the 492-run win against Australia in Johannesburg in 2018.

This loss for India is their heaviest defeat (by margin of runs) in Test cricket.

This was the first series win for South Africa on Indian soil in 25 years, since Hansie Cronje captained the side to a win in 2000.

Temba Bavuma now has 11 wins in 12 games as a captain in Test cricket.

South Africa occupies the second position on the WTC Rankings, right behind Australia (48 points), with 36 points from their four Tests. Their PCT improves from 66.67 to 75.
