The Proteas won the rain-affected 1st T20I against England in Cardiff by 14 runs.
The 1st T20I between England and South Africa was hampered by rain.
South Africa lost the toss and were put in to bat first. The match was first reduced to 9 overs a side. The Proteas only managed to face 7.5 overs before rain appeared once again.
The visitors scored 97-5 – Aiden Markram (28 off 14 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes), Dewald Brevis (23 off 10 balls, 3 sixes), Donovan Ferreira (25 off 11 balls, 3 sixes) and Tristan Stubbs (13 odd 6 balls, 1 four, 1 six) contributed the bulk of the runs.
England’s winning target was reduced to 69 from 5 overs.
Kagiso Rabada marked his return to the side with a wicket off his first delivery, Phil Salt finding deep backward square.
Marco Jansen was the next to take a wicket, forcing Jacob Bethell to sky it to cover. England were 17-2 after 1.3 overs.
Corbin Bosch was the next to strike, Harry Brooke with a leading edge to the keeper. England were 28-3 after 2.3 overs.
Jansen took another, England reduced to 43-4 after 4 overs. Jos Buttler finding an inside edge to the keeper.
Bosch then struck on the first ball of the final over, Tom Banton finding Markram’s hands at mid-off. England were now 43-5.
South Africa won by 14 runs.
