South Africa lost to New Zealand by 21 runs in their Tri-Series match in Harare.
It was another beautiful day at the Harare Sports Club for the second T20 of the Tri-Series.
The Proteas won the toss and decided to bowl first.
In the first 10 overs, South Africa looked the more dominant side, with New Zealand at 74/5. It was looking like the Proteas were going to chase a low score.
However, towards the back end of New Zealand’s innings, Tim Robinson started to turn on the heat and helped the Black Caps put some serious runs on the board, ending with a score of 75* from 57 balls.
The wicket takers for the Proteas were Kwena Maphaka 2-38, Lungi Ngidi 1-28, Gerald Coetzee 1-39, and Senuran Muthusamy 1-19
The Proteas needed 174 to win.
South Africa started well with Lhuan-Dre Pretorious being very aggressive at the middle.
Unfortunately, his time at the crease didn’t last long as he only scored 27 from 17 balls.
Dewald Brevis and George Linde batted well during the middle overs, showing flashes of brilliance. Unfortunately, they both got out due to a poor shot that went straight to the fielder.
Dewald Brevis ended on 35(18) and George Linde ended on 30(20)
The standout bowlers for New Zealand were Jacob Duffy 3-20 and Matt Henry 3-34
While there were positives to take, including a few promising spells, the Proteas will know this was a match they could have and perhaps should have won.
