South Africa kicked off their Tri-Series campaign with a solid five-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Harare.
After a strong bowling display led by George Linde, the Proteas chased down the 142-run target comfortably thanks to a crucial partnership between Dewald Brevis and Rubin Hermann.
It was a bright sunny day at the Harare Sports Club for the first T20 of the Tri-Series.
The Proteas won the toss and decided to bowl first.
South Africa started the game well, picking up 2 wickets and restricting Zimbabwe to only 53 runs from their first 10 overs.
During the middle overs, the hosts just couldn’t seem to get going until Sikandar Raza came in a showed a bit of fight scoring 54* (38).
George Linde was the standout bowler taking 3-9 from just 3 overs which killed Zimbabwe’s momentum resulting in the hosts making a fairly low score.
The other wicket takers were Peter 1-22, Burger 1-22 and Ngidi 1-15.
The Proteas needed 142 to win.
Zimbabwe got off to a good start getting 3 early wickets in the first 5 overs. It was looking like South Africa were going to struggle against this great Zimbabwean bowling attack.
However, momentum quickly shifted when Bewald Brevis and Rubin Hermann came in a built a solid partnership of 72 from 37 deliveries.
The partnership of Brevis and Hermann essentially helped the Proteas cruise to a 5-wicket win which was a fairly comfortable run chase for the visitors.
Brevis ended with 41 (17) and Hermann 45 (37)
Richard Ngarava 3-35 and Trevor Gwandu 2-15 were the wicket-takers for Zimbabwe.
