Momentum Multiply Titans claimed an emphatic victory over the DP World Lions, winning by a staggering 117 runs in the T20 Challenge opener on Friday.

As the sun set and Jozi transformed into shades of ‘Sky Blues’ at the DP World Wanderers, Titans delivered an exceptional performance with half-centuries from former SA U19 star and opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Keegan Petersen, and Donovan Ferreira. Their contributions propelled the visitors to a commanding total of 258/6 in their 20 overs.

Pretorius, last season’s standout rookie, continued to impress with a blistering 82 off 43 balls, including 10 boundaries and 5 sixes. His 152-run partnership with skipper Petersen (68 off 40) laid a solid foundation for the Titans. Pretorius eventually fell to fellow SA U19 talent, Kwena Maphaka (2/31), but his efforts cemented his position as a dependable opener.

Ferreira added to the Titans’ dominance with an explosive 53 off just 19 deliveries, hitting five boundaries and three maximums to ensure the visitors maintained their momentum.

In response, the Lions faced an early collapse, thanks to Roelof van der Merwe (3/28) and Dayyaan Galiem (3/22), who tore through the top order, reducing the home side to 8/5 within the first three overs.

Despite a valiant half-century from Evan Jones (83 off 48), and a 75-run partnership with Delano Potgieter (28), the Lions couldn’t recover.

Galiem’s return in the 14th over saw Potgieter dismissed, and Jones’ eventual run out in the final over, ultimately restricting the Lions to 141/8 in their 20 overs.
