Ryan Rickelton top scored in the first round of the CSA T20 Challenge in the Lions’ win against the Rocks, as we wrap up all the fixtures.
Lions vs Rocks
The highest scoring game of Round 1 took place between the Lions and the Rocks.
Ryan Rickelton scored the highest milestone of the round with 75 off 39 balls (6 fours, 5 sixes).
Rassie van der Dussen was majorly responsible for his side scoring 223/5 in their 20 overs. He scored 42 off 22 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes).
The Rocks’ chase was commendable. Janneman Malan’s 61 off 41 balls kept his side in the game, but his wicket saw his team struggle to recover.
Kwena Maphaka took a flurry of 3 wickets towards the back-end of the innings that stalled the Rocks.
They only managed to score 180-7 in 20 overs.
The Lions won by 43 runs.
Titans vs North West Dragons
The Titans scored 169 in their 20 overs.
Their innings was built up with cameos from Aiden Markram who top scored for his side with a 30-ball 40, Dewald Brevis’ 29 off 19 balls, Rivaldo Moonsamy’s 35 and a 11-ball 23 from Donovan Ferreira.
Migael Pretorius did well to keep the Titans relatively at bay, taking 3-18, while Duan Jansen dismissed Brevis and Moonsamy at key moments in the match.
The Dragons got close to completing their chase and that was largely thanks to Raynard van Tonder’s 48. Junior Dala and Tabraiz Shamsi took three wickets apiece to cause enough resistance to the Dragons’ efforts.
They fell 13 runs short of the target to hand the Titans a win.
WP vs Dolphins
Western Province never had a great start and found themselves down 60-3.
But a 30-ball 40 from Jonathan Bird, 22 from Mihlali Mpongwana and 25 from Kyle Simmonds helped them to a respectable 148-8.
WP struck back well with the ball to reduce the Dolphins to 56-4 after 9.1 overs and 112-7 by the 16th over.
Despite a fighting partnership of 33 at the back end from Keshav Maharaj (13) and Prenelan Subrayen (19), the Dolphins fell 2 runs short of their target.
Warriors vs Tuskers
In a low-scoring game, the Warriors were skittled for 125. Smangaliso Nhlebela (3-15) and A Mhletywa (3-19) starred with the ball.
Marco Jansen took 4-19 and S Simetu took 3-25, inspiring the downfall of the Tuskers.
They were bowled out for 88 in 16.4 overs.
The Warriors won by 37 runs.
