The Proteas were sub-par in every department against the Netherlands. But there’s no time to panic or to think too much about the performance. They have to stay focused and aim to bounce back.
As fans, it is normal for us to feel a sense of panic and worry, given the Proteas’ history in ICC events. Heck, I was fuming last night on the Daily Show when I gave my review of the game.
Having lost before to the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup in a similar fashion, it’s inevitable that panic has set in amongst us all. The performance was embarrassing – the bowling plans were frantic, the fielding lacked intent and the less said about the top-order batting performance, the better.

There is still a long way to go with plenty of opponents still to face. They will need to put this game behind them and focus on the next game. There was an execution problem against the Netherlands, which is something that can be rectified instantly.
They should go back to basics and ensure that they implement the things that they do well. Professional sports teams have setbacks, it’s inevitable. It’s now all about how they bounce back from this defeat.
