The Titans have notched up another handy victory, after an intense tussle with the Warriors. They’ve continued their unbeaten run thus far in the One-Day Cup.
It was a brisk start with the bat for the home side, with a domineering 150-run stand between Wihan Lubbe and Diego Rosier steering them along.
Lubbe would go on to score his second century in 50-over cricket, amassing a scintillating 135 from 127. Several middle-order cameos provided useful support, and they were able to cross 300 as a result.
Lizaad Williams starred with the ball, with a superbly economical spell topped off with three wickets.
With 307 to chase, the Titans had a challenge on offer. The early wickets of Neil Brand and Jiveshan Pillay dented their progress, but it was the partnership between Gihahn Cloete and Heinrich Klaasen that gradually began to take the game away from the Warriors.
Cloete was the accumulator, while Klaasen was the aggressor. However, the wicket of Cloete not only brought about the end to a partnership worth 162 runs, but it also triggered a middle-order slide.
Fortunately for the Titans, Klaasen stuck around despite the turbulence. He would go on to score a masterful ton, all but taking his side home. Another late flurry of wickets had them panicking, but a boundary from Lizaad Williams in the very last over sealed the deal in what was a very nervous endgame.
Despite Lubbe’s all-round clinic, it was the Titans that had the last laugh today.
