In the second ODI of the three-match series between South Africa and Bangladesh, South Africa chased down 195 runs in 37.2 overs with seven wickets to spare.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat, hoping to replicate their batting performance from the first ODI. South Africa had other plans as their bowling unit wreaked havoc on Bangladesh’s batters.
Lungi Ngidi provided the first breakthrough, dismissing Bangladesh’s captain, Tamim Iqbal, in the third over of the game. Kagiso Rabada took over from there to further the damage to Bangladesh’s top order by dismissing Litton Das and Shakib Al Hassan for 15 (21) and 0 (6), respectively.
Afif Hossain and Mehidy Miraz tried to rebuild Bangladesh’s innings with valiant innings of 72 (107) and 38 (49), respectively, but they were unable to get past 194 in 50 overs. Rabada was South Africa’s standout performer, taking five wickets in his ten-over spell, and conceding only 39 runs.
Chasing 195, Quinton de Kock and Jaanemann Malan started strong with an 86-run partnership. De Kock was the aggressor, scoring 62 off 41 balls, with nine boundaries and two sixes.
Kyle Verreynne and Temba Bavuma kept the momentum going with an 82-run partnership. Bavuma contributed with a useful 37 off 52 balls. Verreynne remained unbeaten on 58 off 77 balls.
