George Linde, the Proteas left-arm spinning allrounder, has inked his first contract in the county circuit, and will join Kent as their overseas pro at the start of this year’s season. He’s set to play all formats as part of the deal.
As of now, Linde has played 3 Tests, 2 ODIs, and 14 T20Is for the Proteas. In addition, he made it to the recently completed T20WC as a traveling reserve.
Kent were in need of a reliable spin option with their relatively newer spinners in the process of establishing themselves as regulars and the retirement of their most experienced spinner, Imran Qayyum, midway through last year’s season. Linde checks two important boxes as a steady finger spinner and a hard-hitting middle-order batter.
With a sterling first-class record (batting average of 30, bowling average of 24) and consistent opportunities at international level, Linde will be crucial to Kent’s success going forward.
