Aiden Markram (70) and Quinton de Kock (60) set the tone with a 128-run partnership for the Proteas, but another limp effort from the middle-order saw them post 168/4 in the final T20 against the Windies.
After losing the captain for a duck, Markram and De Kock strung together 128 runs before the latter lost his wicket on the first ball of the 15th over.
Markram took the Proteas to 144 but lost his wicket halfway through the 17th over, leaving Miller to play the finishing role that he was brought in early to do.
The Proteas managed to score just 40 off the last 6 and 31 off the last 5 overs, Miller ending on 18 off 16 balls.
Markram (70 off 48 balls) and De Kock (60 off 42 balls) were exquisite and proved their worth in the T20 side. De Kock hit 2 sixes and 4 fours while Markram scored 4 sixes and 3 fours.
Questions still remain over South Africa’s ability to score runs in the last 5 overs of an innings – an issue that has hassled them throughout the series.
The bowlers would need a disciplined performance to win the match and clinch a 3-2 series win.
South Africa 168/4 – Markram 70, De Kock 60; Fidel Edwards 2-19
