Raynard van Tonder scored an impressive century against a talented University Sports South Africa XI on Sunday.

The former South Africa U19 captain clobbered an unbeaten 102 off 85 balls, which included eight fours and three sixes, to help his side register 330 for seven.

This was followed by them skittling USSA for 162 in 32.3 overs – sealing a mammoth 168-run win at the Groenkloof Oval in Pretoria.

It was also the perfect reaction for the Emerging side after they suffered a heavy four-wicket loss to the Sri Lanka Emerging team on Sunday.

Man-of-the-Match Van Tonder was the top-scorer, but he had help from talented duo Janneman Malan and Matthew Breetzke who recoded an opening stand of 142.

Malan contributed 85 off 81 balls (3 fours, 1 six) and Breetzke amassed 63 off 68 balls (10 fours).

After both fell, Van Tonder carried the innings forward with Tony de Zorzi who hit 53 off 40 balls (6 fours, 1 six) and then marshalled the tail.

Ruan de Swardt was the best of the bowlers with 2-47.

USSA failed to find any rhythm with their reply, slumping to 43-4 and then 135-7, before being blown away with nearly 20 overs to go.

Isma-eel Gafieldien top-scored with 50 off 64 balls (3 fours, 1 six).

It was a strong combined bowling effort by SA Emerging, with Dayyaan Galiem’s 3-40 leading the way. Kyle Simmonds (2-15) and Thando Ntini (2-41) were also amongst the wickets.
