It was business as usual for Dean Elgar as he guided the Proteas to 148-1 at stumps on Day 1 of the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka at the Wanderers, writes Khalid Mohidin.
After the Proteas bowlers did the hard work by bowling Sri Lanka out for 157, it was up to the batters to pile the pressure on South Africa even further.

The Proteas lost the early wicket of Aiden Markram for 5 in the 8th over, but other than that, it was steady batting from the home side.
Dean Elgar was the key batter for the Proteas on Day 1, bringing up his half-century in 70 balls, the second-fastest in his career. The fastest half-century in his career came off 59 balls.
Majority of his boundaries came down the leg side where he tends to feel more comfortable scoring.
He ended the day on 92 (16 fours).
Rassie van der Dussen took his time at the crease, taking 25 balls to get off the mark. He showed the patience required to set himself a platform while supporting his partner who was more settled at the other end.
Van der Dussen started to find the boundary a little more frequently towards the end of the day, scoring two boundaries in the 33rd over to bring up the 100-run partnership with Elgar.
He finished the day with 40 off 82 balls (6 fours).
South Africa ended the day trailing by 9 runs.
