Western Province bowled Northerns out for 96, to win their second game and remain unbeaten in the CSA Women’s Provincial League, writes Emily Norris.

The third game of Pool A was played between Northerns and Western Province on Saturday, 20th March at the Vineyard Oval. Northerns fielded the same team as their previous game, whereas Western Province made one change, bringing in a young fast bowler for another – Christine Tomlinson came in for Sinelethu Yaso.

Northerns won the toss, electing to bowl first. Saarah Smith had another good day with the bat, top scoring for Province, scoring 42 runs off 64 balls, with 5 fours. She got stumped trying to hit one over the top, off Ricea Coetzer’s bowling. Delmari Tucker also played an important hand in the Province innings, scoring 29 off 28, with a strike rate of 103.57.

Eliz-Mari Marx, Kay-leigh Tapp and Ricea Coetzer all picked up 3 wickets a piece, as Northerns managed to restrict Province to 168 all out in 49.5 overs.

Northerns opened their innings with Gandhi Jafta and Robyn Searle. Tatum Le Roux dismissed Jafta LBW on the first ball of the innings. Northerns had a few decent partnerships in the middle, however, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Christine Tomlinson was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets and finishing with figures of 4/19 in 6.4 overs. Le Roux took 3 wickets, finishing with figures of 3/21 in her 10 overs.

Western Province bowled Northerns out for 96, winning clinically by 73 runs.
