“It has been disappointing to lose,” said South African limited-overs captain, Quinton de Kock, in his media interaction ahead of the final T20 against England, but “we will play our best team” because “we need to win for our own sake.”
Challenged by the unavailability of certain players, de Kock said the Proteas don’t have all the resources they would have liked, but they will “hope for the best.”
While “it would be nice to have an all-rounder, but we need to get on with it.” David Miller and Andile Pheklukwayo will not be available for tomorrow’s T20, however, they “will be available for the ODIs.”
Reflecting on the lack of a sixth bowler, de Kock said, “we didn’t really need one.” Tactically, de Kock believes, “getting the right mix” is important because it is hard to tell Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, who can deliver express pace at 150 km/hr to bowl slow, whereas Lungi Ngidi relies more on his variations.
Conceding that the Proteas misjudged the wicket at Boland Park, de Kock stated, “no one knew it was going to spin. We thought it was going to be a belter.”
With the first two T20s not going South Africa’s way, de Kock believes “patience is the key at the moment. The team has not played together for six months.” He remains confident that “the results will start showing.”
