Reeza Hendricks chats about where the game was lost in the 2nd T20I against India in Mohali. He also looks ahead to the final T20.
The Proteas got a brilliant start to the game, with Quinton de Kock’s half-century giving the Proteas a quick advantage in the game.
But after a couple of wickets, the their innings stalled and they only managed to score a total of 149-5, despite being 78-1 after 10 overs.
Henricks acknowledged this as a learning curve.
“Not ideal losing the game, 1-0 down as you mentioned… I think we played really good cricket in periods and in some periods we didn’t,” said Hendricks.
“We probably lost towards the back end of our batting. Where we were probably 20 runs short. And coming up against a good batting lineup like theirs we obviously needed a bit more runs to try and defend the total, and that’s probably where we lost.
“We had a good start. Quinny played well up front and was then supported well by Temba.
“They both played well to get us into a good position after 10 overs. So to improve, some learnings going forward, is probably at the back end.
“If we can improve on that with people stepping up and scoring at the back end of the innings, that will put us into good stead to get a competitive total going into the next game.
“Our bowlers never had much to defend in the 1st game, so especially when we batting first we need to get that competitive total on the board so they can have something to bowl at.”
