In this episode, Khalid was joined by 5 Boland Cricketers ahead of the New Domestic Restructure, Michael Copeland, Imraan Manack, Siyabonga Mahima, Ruan Terblanche and Isma-eel Gafieldien.
They share with us a bit about themselves, their cricketing journeys and recollect experiences of playing at Boland Park.
They reveal what most excites them about playing for Boland in the new domestic cricket structure and share their messages for the Boland faithful in this fun-filled video. You can also be sure to catch insights they share on each other and some friendly funny chirps and banter!
“It really is an honour to play with some of the best in the business… Boland is a good start for me and especially with the whole new setup and the experienced players that they have as well, I feel like it was a very good way to go,” said 19-year-old Michael Copeland about his move to Boland, after a stand-out Cubs Week with the Lions.
“So being new to the system, I’m really excited to be part of this and actually get a chance to play in front of the fans. But it’s really going to be quite an experience playing with all the guys, so I’m really excited for what’s gonna happen.”
Another new signing, Imraan Manack, gave his insight into his experience playing at Boland Park as a rival in the past.
“I’ve played quite a few games at Boland Park, I’ve always been a player who was not a local. There were a few games where you’d be at cow corner, and you got a few supporters who would always give you some very interesting words,” he explained.
“You want those type of fans on your side, having them shouting your team’s name or your name. So that’s a very exciting aspect that comes with [playing] for Boland.”

Here are some of the stand out messages to the Boland Faithful from Siyabonga Mahima, Ruan Terblanche and Isma-eel Gafieldien:
Boland is a union that’s worked hard to be where they are, but on top of that, the hard work comes with support. The support from the fans has been unreal. I’ve heard the stories of playing a One-Day Game at Boland Park on a Sunday in semi-pro cricket. I’ve seen [the vibe] with the Paarl Rocks. Without the support [from the fans], it wouldn’t have been the same. Boland cricket might never have been where it is now, so just a massive thank you to the fans and all the supporters” – Siyabonga Mahima
“I’ve played many games there however I haven’t played in front of fans yet due to COVID. Watching the Paarl Rocks and hearing the stories over the past few years, it’s incredible to have seen all the people [at the ground]. I’ve been in the stands before to watch a game, the vibe is crazy, it’s unreal to be a part of. I just want to encourage the fans to continue supporting us. We’ll do our best [to make you proud] – Ruan Terblanche
“I think everything has been said, the Paarl community is well known for their support, so all we are asking is that they keep on supporting Boland cricket.” – Isma-eel Gafieldien
