On Day 2 of the fourth round in the 4-Day Series, the Warriors produced a superb bowling performance that handed Western Province Blitz a second successive innings defeat.

The weather in the Highveld meant that the two fixtures were interrupted while Titans have kept the Rocks quiet in their own backyard.

Warriors vs Western Province Blitz

The Warriors could only add 81 runs on Day 2 at St George’s Park cricket stadium courtesy of Ziyaad Abrahams four-wicket haul. Trailing Warriors by 366 runs, in the absence of some big names, Blitz found themselves bowled out for 79 runs unable to avoid a follow-on as they had a 287-runs deficit.

Mthiwekhaya Nabe and Tsepo Ndwandwa stood out with three wickets each, while a brilliant three-over spell from Alindile Mhletywa yielded two wickets one being the big one of David Bedingham.

The Warriors bowlers replicated their superb first-innings performance as they forced Blitz to a follow on in the second session on Day 2. This time, Wihan Lubbe came to the party with three wickets bowling in sync with left-arm spinner Ndwandwa, who bowled from the Duckpond end and claimed two wickets to round off what was a good period up until Basheer Walters and Kieran Kenny joined to put on a fight worth 40 runs. Walters was the top scorer in the match for Blitz with his half-century on Day 2.

Warriors won by an innings and 114 runs.

Rain-affected matches: Lions vs Knights & North West vs Dolphins

The rain in the Highveld interrupted the match at the Wanderers as the Lions only added 91 runs with no wicket lost on Day 2.

In North West, the visiting Dolphins batting lineup put on a fight as they posted a competitive 400 runs led by Marques Ackerman’s first ton of the competition. Delano Potgieter finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5-85

In reply, the Dragons could only face eleven deliveries as play was stopped by rain.

Rocks vs Titans

Rocks opening pair of Isma-eel Gafieldien and Cebo Tshiki started the Rocks’ first innings on Day 2 up against fast bowlers Chris Morris and Corbin Bosch who steamed in on both ends. A rain delay started when Rocks were on 142-4.

They trail by 166 runs.
