Tuks were given by far their hardest game of the tournament before overcoming their Pakistan opponents by 5 wickets in the final of the Red Bull Campus Challenge at the ICC Academy in Dubai on Saturday.
It was the third victory in the last five years for Tuks, who were South Africa’s representatives in the seven-nation tournament.
For the first time in the tournament Tuks bowled first and looked in complete control when they dismissed their opponents in 15.5 overs for exactly 100 runs with Ruan de Swardt taking a remarkable 5/12 in 3.5 overs.
The Tuks top order then proved to be less resilient than in the past as they slumped to 48/5 in 9.1 overs but they had the men for the moment in Jandre Pretorius (36 off 41 balls, 3 fours) and the explosive Aron Visser (36 off 21 balls, 2 fours and 3 sixes) who got them over the line without further loss.
The 20-year-old Visser had done a similar hatchet job on Sri Lanka in the semi-final.
In the end both innings were exactly the same length (15.5 overs) and Pakistan paid the price for not batting out their 20 overs.
