Clinical bowling by Nonkululeko Mlaba (4-29), followed by dominant batting from Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt saw the Proteas claim a 10-wicket win against the West Indies in the T20 World Cup.

The Proteas Women restricted West Indies to 118-6 after electing to bowl first.

Despite taking some fantastic wickets, it was slightly disappointing that they never cleaned up the West Indies for under 100 after restricting them to 62-5 after 12 overs.

They struggled to contain Stafanie Taylor who scored 44 off 41 balls.

Nonkululeko Mlaba (4-29) was South Africa’s best bowler, her fourth wicket was key to restricting the Windies to 83-6 in 15.1 overs. It was a career-best performance form the left-arm spinner.

No wickets fell thereafter as the West Indies set a target of 119 for the Proteas Women to chase.

The Proteas were, calm, composed and collected in their chase.

The opening pair managed to reach the target without losing a wicket.

Laura Wolvaardt scored her first half-century as a skipper in a World Cup, her 12th in her career. This brought up the 100 for South Africa.

This was the pair’s second 100-plus run partnership. Completing the chase meant that this was the highest partnership against the West Indies in a World Cup.

Tazmin Brits followed suit, bringing up her 13th career milestone.

It was a resounding victory for the Proteas, who won by 10 wickets with 13 balls remaining.
