A brilliant batting performance from Anneke Bosch and Sune Luus sees The Momentum Proteas beat India by 8 wickets, and lead the series 1-0, writes Emily Norris.
The T20I series between India and South Africa kicked off today, 20th March, in Lucknow. The Momentum Proteas won the toss, electing to bowl first. Harleen Deol top-scored for India, scoring 52 runs off 47 balls, with 6 fours. Shabnim Ismail picked up 3 wickets for 14 runs in her 4 overs, with 2 of those wickets coming in the last over of the game.
Anneke Bosch also played her part with the ball, picking up 2 wickets, both in the 18th over. The knocks from Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues helped India reach a total of 130-6 in their 50 overs.
After Anneke Bosch’s impressive performance with the bat in the last ODI, she was promoted to the top of the order, opening the batting with Lizelle Lee. Lee was dismissed early by Arundhati Reddy, which saw the Momentum Proteas captain, Sune Luus, walk to the crease.
Bosch and Luus put on a partnership of 90 runs, before Luus was dismissed for 43 runs off 49 balls, caught and bowled by Deol. Bosch played a dominant innings, picking up where she left off in the last ODI, and bringing up her maiden T20I fifty off 39 balls.
She carried her bat through South Africa’s innings, scoring 66* off 48 balls, with 9 fours and 1 six. She fittingly hit the winning runs for South Africa off the first ball of the last over.
The Momentum Proteas finished on 133-2, winning comfortably by 8 wickets.
