The Sunrisers Eastern Cape retained their SA20 title in an electrifying performance at a packed Newlands stadium on Saturday.

The atmosphere was palpable as fans flocked to the stadium for the SA20 experience, despite the absence of the home team. Conversations with fans revealed unanimous praise for the tournament’s family-friendly vibe and its appeal to cricket enthusiasts and non-cricket-loving viewers of all ages.

Although the match proved to be one-sided, it was undeniably a worthwhile event for spectators.

The defending champions demonstrated their dominance from the outset by winning the toss and opting to bat first, ultimately setting the highest SA20 total at Newlands with a commanding 204/3 on the board.

Notable contributions came from Jordan Hermann (42 off 26 balls), Tom Abell (50 off 34 balls), and Aiden Markram (42 off 26 balls). However, the standout performance of the day belonged to Tristan Stubbs, whose unbeaten 56 off 30 deliveries, including 3 fours and 4 sixes, showcased his prowess with the bat.

Durban’s Super Giants struggled to contain the Sunrisers’ onslaught and failed to mount a substantial response with the bat, despite boasting a star-studded lineup.

Marco Jansen and Ottniel Baartman led the charge for the Sunrisers, dismantling Durban’s top 7 and restricting them to a mere 84 runs in 13.1 overs. Wiaan Mulder’s valiant effort of 38 runs from 22 balls was the lone highlight for the struggling side.

Jansen was SEC’s top performer with a remarkable 5/30 and was also the man to take the final wicket, skittling DSG for 115.

He ended as the tournament’s top wicket-taker with 20.
