The Proteas booked their spot in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy with a convincing victory against England.

South Africa lost the toss and bowled first in their last group match against England and got a brilliant start.

Marco Jansen (3-39) got a wicket in each of his first two overs. Both times were with a short delivery, which cramped the batters for space. Both Jamie Smith and Phil Salt attempted the pull shot. The former skewed the ball to mid-on, with the latter finding mid-wicket.

He struck again in his 4th over, forcing Ben Duckett into a leading edged back to the bowler. England were 37-3 after 6.4 overs.

Jansen was involved with the 4th wicket too, this time taking a brilliant catch sprinting 28 meters from long-on towards a hanging ball that he took at deep midwicket to dismiss Harry Brook (19). Keshav Maharaj got the breakthrough to reduce England to 99-4 after 16.5 overs.

Wiaan Mulder then castled Joe Root (37) in the following over and England were five down, having just passed the 100-run mark.

Maharaj picked up his second by outfoxing Liam Livingstone, who advanced too far out of his crease for a Heinrich Klaasen stumping in the 21st over.

Rabada joined the party in the 26th, thanks to a brilliant effort from Lungi Ngidi covering 16 meters to take a diving catch at mid-on. England were now 129-7.

England were reduced to 171-8, Jofra Archer (25) losing his wicket to Mulder, with Jansen taking a diving catch at mid-wicket.

Buttler then chipped Ngidi to mid-on and they were 9 down for 173.

Mulder (3-25) took the final wicket to bowl England out for 179.

The chase was relatively simple for the Proteas, losing just three wickets – Rickelton (27), Stubbs (0) and Klaasen (64 off 56 balls). Klaasen and Van Der Dussen (72) starred with the bat, occupying the crease for the majority of the chase. The pair strung together 127 to take SA to 174 when Klaasen lost his wicket in the 29th over.

The Proteas ended up winning by 7 wickets.

This put them at the top of Group B.
