South Africa managed the highest T20I run chase in history, chasing down the West Indies’ target of 259 and winning by 6 wickets.

After winning the toss, Aiden Markram elected to bowl first at Centurion. The SuperSport Park pitch was a road and turned out to be a belter to bat on. This was proven by the Windies’ total, their highest in T20 history, 258-5.

Johnson Charles hit the fastest century by a West Indies batter 100 off 39 balls (9 fours, 9 sixes) and continued to pile on the runs to finish with 118 off 46 balls (10 fours, 11 sixes)

The Proteas fans on social media seemed defeated and had little belief that their team would get over the line.

Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks had other plans.

The pair hit the highest powerplay score by a Test-playing nation, 102-0.

De Kock in this period hit the fastest half-century by a South African 50 off 15 balls (5 fours, 5 sixes). He converted this into his first-ever century for the Proteas in the format. He lost his wicket on 100 off 44 balls, including 9 fours and 8 sixes.

Hendricks was super as well, he finished with 68 off 28 balls (11 fours, 2 sixes), but lost his wicket in the 13th over with his side on 193.

Aiden Markram (38 off 21 balls) and Klaasen (16 off 7 balls) saw the team over the line.

South Africa won by 6 wickets (with 7 balls remaining)
