Although India has dominated the second session on day two of the 2nd Test, let’s just take some time out to congratulate Maharaj for bringing up 100 Test wickets.

He floated a delivery outside off, and it spun slightly away from Rahane who came forward to defend. It tickled the bat and Quinton de Kock took a simple catch.

Corrie van Zyl, the interim Director of Cricket, took the opportunity to congratulate the spinner.

“Congratulations to Keshav on this significant milestone in his career,” he said.

“He has been a key member of the Proteas attack from the time of his debut against Australia under difficult circumstances when the team was left with an effective three-man attack after the injury to Dale Steyn.

“He played an important part in winning that series and again in another away series in New Zealand when he topped the South African bowling averages.

“One of the hallmarks of his career has been his ability to take wickets in all parts of the world and under all conditions.

“On his first trip to the sub-continent, he became only the second South African to take 9 wickets in an innings against Sri Lanka.

“We look forward to his continuing to be the leader of our spin attack for many years to come.”

Maharaj’s breakthrough did not, however, stall India from scoring freely.

Kohli took himself to 194 and strung together a 97-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.

They ended the session on 473/4 with a total of 141 overs bowled in two days.

A total of 117 runs were scored in 28 overs in the second session with India scoring at a run rate of 4.18.
