Elgar confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the 26-year-old will replace the injured Van der Dussen who picked up a finger injury in the 2nd Test.
“Ryan Rickelton is our next batter in,” said Elgar. “I’m pretty certain that he will replace Rassie. He’s had a decent time playing County Cricket recently. It’s his time to shine hopefully. I’m very confident that he will be filling the spot that Rassie has left, so good luck to Ricks.”
There has been a call from the fans and pundits for Rickelton to play in this series, particularly ahead of the 2nd Test. This was largely due to his County run which saw Rickelton hit two 100s and four 50s in eight innings for Northamptonshire on a short-term deal.
But fans who have followed him domestically know about his talent and ability. Particularly the last domestic season for the Lions, which saw him score 497 runs with three 100s and a 50.
Overall in red-ball cricket, he has 14 first-class half-centuries and 12 centuries. Out of those 12 centuries, five are scores of 150-plus.
