Ryan Rickelton has been in scintillating form in this season’s SA20 and is now looking forward to adjusting and testing himself on a slower pitch in Paarl.
The MI Cape Town opener has so far hit scores of 87, 98, 58 and 94 not out in his latest swashbuckling knock in the tournament against Paarl Royals in the Cape derby at Newlands on Friday.
Rickelton and his teammates will on Sunday head down the N1 for a 30-40 minute drive for the return fixture against their Western Cape rivals.
The left-hander has made his scores on good batting tracks in the competition but knows he will need to adapt his game at Boland Park which is known to favour the spinners.
“I’m expecting it to turn. Day games at Paarl are always tough. The crowd is abusive towards the opposition,” Rickelton said.
“Hopefully we can take a bit of momentum. We need to adjust, it is a big ground. We need to see how the wicket will be.
“It will be about adapting and accepting that 140 or 160 is a good total. Getting another four points on Sunday will be great going into the next week.”
Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen have formed an outstanding partnership at the top of the order for MI Cape Town this campaign that has seen them get some big totals.
The duo have come a long way together on the South African domestic circuit and could be the key if the team from Newlands wants to lift the trophy.
Rickelton added: “One great aspect is that we know each other’s game really well. We discuss options for each player.
“I know what Rassie is good at, he knows what I am good at, and we try to work that in our game. We want to be the leaders in the tournament, and are actually having fun out there.
“I love batting with him, and hopefully we can continue with this for a few more weeks.”
