We wrap up Day 1 of the sixth round of the CSA 4-Day Series Competition.
Dolphins vs Warriors:
Warriors’ skipper, Rudi Second, launched his team to 343-6 at the close with a sparkling 120 runs which included 15 fours. Making his first appearance for the Gqeberha-based side, Second, marked his return with a century and was given support by Lesiba Ngoepe (43) and Sine Qeshile (45). Eathan Bosch took three wickets for the home side.
WP Blitz vs Lions:
Having been asked to bowl first by the Lions, Western Province Blitz had a decent start making sure that the successful pair of Sipamla and Olivier did not do damage upfront with the new ball. A run out by Dominic Hendricks to dismiss Jonathan Bird led to the first wicket for the visiting Lions side. Tony de Zorzi (58) and David Bedingham (81) steadied the ship with their 81-run partnership before they were dismissed by Wiaan Mulder and Sipamla respectively. Kyle Verreynne was dismissed late on day one for a well-played 86 off 153 deliveries. Blitz finished day one on 306/6
Knights vs Titans:
The Titans reached 314/3 before a rain delay led to stumps with only 82.1 overs bowled in the day. Titans openers laid a solid foundation with a partnership of 121 runs. Jordan Hermann (67), Grant Mokoena (58), Heinrich Klaasen (84*) and Sibonelo Makhanya (85*) all had valuable runs that saw Titans score at a magnificent rate of 3.82 runs to the over. Alfred Mothoa’s 2-28 in 15 overs and Patrick Kruger’s 1-50 were the only bowling performances that resulted in wickets although Migael Pretorius bowled with incredible control.
Rocks vs Dragons:
Cebo Tshiki (69) and Pieter Malan (79) put on a 151-runs opening stand and laid the foundation for Stiaan van Zyl (68*) and Janneman Malan (91*) to build a big partnership with freedom. Van Zyl and Janneman Malan will take to the crease on day two hoping to add a lot of runs to their overnight score of 310/2. Ndumiso Mvelase picked up the two wickets that fell on the opening day and will be looking to continue his good performances.
