A superb 72 from Quinton de Kock has held the innings together, as South Africa limped and stumbled their way to 167 for 8 in the 3rd T20I.
The hosts won the toss for the third time in three games, and it ended up to be a prudent decision once again. Despite a pleasant Powerplay phase, the Proteas lost the wickets of Hendricks and Bavuma, and would struggle for momentum throughout the remainder of the innings.
Aiden Markram had a bright start, but picked out long-off from a Dwayne Bravo full toss.
Left-armer Obed McCoy starred with the ball for the Windies, with his reductions of pace proving to be very impactful. All four of his wickets involved beating batters for pace, and that successfully stifled the Proteas during the death overs.
There was a point when 180, maybe 190, could’ve been reached, but the soft-middle order was once again put to the sword by McCoy and Bravo.
Rassie van der Dussen scored a decent 32, but couldn’t kick on and provide the finishing touches with the team was in desperate need of. Quinton de Kock’s excellent innings propped up the Proteas well, but his dismissal inflicted a collapse, as SA lost 5 wickets for 21 runs in the final 3 overs. It’s a defendable total, but can the visitors repeat a similar effort with the ball as the last game?
SA 167/8 in 20 overs (de Kock 72, van der Dussen 32 – McCoy 4-0-22-4, Bravo 4-0-25-3)
