The South Africa U19 Women won their first match of the World Cup beating New Zealand by 22 runs after a reduced game.
The match was reduced to 11 overs per side due to a wet outfield at Sarawak Cricket Ground.
South Africa was put in to bat first and it was Jemma Botha who set the tone with her 32 off 24 balls. She took the side to 74-3 in 7.4 overs.
South Africa was also boosted by runs from Simone Lourens (21 off 14 balls) and Karabo Meso (25 off 14 balls). SA posted 91-7 in their 11 overs.
New Zealand only managed to reach 69 in their 11 overs, with Emma McLeod top scoring with 34 off 25 balls. The rest of the batters struggled to gain momentum to take their side to victory.
New Zealand lost five wickets during their chase. Kayla Reyneke too 2-15 and Monalisa Legodi took 2-8. The other wicket was a run out by Meso.
South Africa U19 won by 22 runs.
