After their match against the West Indies was abandoned due to rain, the Momentum Proteas have qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup.
The sixth WC match for the Proteas Women – against the West Indies – has been called off due to persistent rain. However, it’s not all doom and gloom, as this cancellation ensured that SA are making it through to the semifinals.
An early weather delay had cut the game to 26 overs per team. The Windies got off to a flying start, taking four quick wickets in the first six overs. However, Mignon du Preez counterattacked well, with an unbeaten 38 from 31.
It’s been a solid campaign so far, with the only blemish against the top-ranked Australian side. It remains to be seen who South Africa’s opponent will be in the semis, but regardless, this is an achievement to appreciate.
