The Proteas strengthened their chances of automatic qualification for the 2023 World Cup with a dominant 8-wicket win against the Netherlands.

It was a straightforward victory for the hosts in Benoni, on a day that was expected to be rained out.

After winning the toss, South Africa elected to bowl first.

Tabraiz Shamsi (3/25) and Sisanda Magala (3/37) were the top wicket-takers.

Anrich Nortje claimed 2/24, Marco Jansen 1-27 and Aiden Markram 1-30 as they skittled the Netherlands for 189 in 46.1 overs.

The chase was pretty simple, with Quinton de Kock (9 off 21 balls) and Rassie van der Dussen (31 off 41 balls) the only batters that struggled to get going.

Captain Temba Bavuma was exquisite again, he hit the winning boundary and ended with 90 not out, while Aiden Markram complimented him brilliantly on the other end. He finished with a 39-ball 51.

Bavuma hit 8 fours and a six, while Markram just about matched him with 7 fours and a six.

Their partnership was 102 off 69 balls and was key to the comfortable victory.

The Proteas secured 10 points against the Netherlands and move up 88 points, ahead of Sri Lanka and level with West Indies. Another win puts them in the top eight.

The Proteas need to win the next game and Ireland needs to lose one of their 3 matches against Bangladesh in May. Another way to qualify is if the Proteas have a better NRR at that point if Ireland manages to beat Bangladesh 3-0.
