The Proteas wrapped up Sri Lanka in the morning session on Day 5 to complete an 85-run win in the 2nd Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

They completed a 2-0 series win after their success in Durban in the 1st Test.

Sri Lanka needed 348 to win and started Day 5 on 205-5 with the game in the balance and hopes of leveling the series. Keshav Maharaj tore up their script with a five-wicket haul (5-76).

Sri Lanka captain Dhanajaya de Silva (50) and Kusal Mendis (47) fought hard, but SA dismissed them before they inflicted any significant damage. Rabada and Maharaj were key to putting South Africa in the driving seat to victory, Mendis falling to Rabada and De Silva outsmarted by Maharaj. Sri Lanka were 225-7.

With Sri Lanka’s recognised batters back in the dugout, SA managed to wrap things up quickly.

Maharaj took the wicket of Prabath Jayasuriya and Vishwa Fernando to complete his five-for and Marco Jansen dismissed Lahiru Kumara with his first ball of the day to seal the victory.

Sri Lanka were all out for 238 and SA completed a 109-run win.

Dane Paterson picked up the Man of the Match award for his 5-71 in the first innings and 2-33 in the second innings.

South Africa now sits top of the Test Championship log.
