Game 2 of the SA20, between Durban’s Super Giants and the Pretoria Capitals, saw key contributions from Test all-rounders Wiaan Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy.
Both players recently reentered the Test side and enjoyed success during the Bangladesh tour, and are now continuing to make inroads in the shorter versions. Muthusamy was the first to impress, as he accounted for the dismissals of openers Matthew Breetzke and Bryce Parsons. Both players were going at above 10 an over, but Muthusamy’s double strike quickly applied the brakes for the hosts. Quinton de Kock became the left-arm spinner’s third wicket as he popped a catch to fine-leg. Overall returns of 4-0-21-3 stood out in what was a high-scoring affair at Kingsmead.
Despite the middle-overs wobble, the arrival of Wiaan Mulder at #6 brought about a late kick at the back end for DSG. They had lost their way a bit, and Kane Williamson was going at just better than a run a ball, but Mulder’s 19-ball unbeaten 45 (4 4’s and 3 6’s) flipped the script rather quickly. The seam-bowling allrounder hit three towering maximums off Liam Livingstone, and another three boundaries off Eathan Bosch in the very next over. As a result, DSG were very well placed at halftime.
Pretoria Capitals got close to chasing the total but they ended up losing by two runs.
The rest of the batting attack couldn’t finish off the start from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (89 off 43 balls) and Will Jacks (64 off 35 balls). After being 154-0 they were restricted to 207-6.
