The Proteas were once again embarrassed by Australia in the final T20I losing the match by 97 runs.
Tabraiz Shamsi once again proved his worth picking up figures of 1/24 when the rest of the bowlers fled to all parts of the ground. He’s truly showing the consistency many have asked for. In the absence of Imran Tahir he has stepped up.
Aaron Finch and David Warner got Australia off to a flying start at a fully packed Newlands. The former notched up his 12th half century while the latter scored his 17th T20I fifty.
Australia were racing and were well on their way to 200 being 112 without the loss of a wicket after the 10th over. But once the duo got out, no one else quite got going and the Proteas pulled things back to restrict them to a stiff but not impossible target especially with the team chasing at Newlands winning 77% of games.
The Proteas and spin – a love story that just never seems to end. Losing the inform Quinton de Kock early also never helped the Proteas with this huge target to chase down and with it being a decider and all. Ashton Agar 3/16 and Adam Zampa 2/10 were the chief destroyers as the Proteas were skittled out for 96 runs.
Australia beat them by 97 runs to clinch the series 2-1. Once again, only one win as they were thrashed by 107 runs in the first T20I at the Wanderers.
Serious questions need to be asked about the batsmen and the over reliance on Quinton de Kock and the injured Temba Bavuma who proved his worth with the former.
5 T20I’s left for the Proteas before the T20 World Cup in October later the year.
