After being forced to bat again, Pakistan ended Day 3 of the 2nd Test on 213-1 trailing the Proteas by 208 runs.

It was another beautiful day at Newlands for day 3 of the 2nd Test.

South Africa was looking to pick up where they left off by carrying the momentum from Saturday after taking 3 wickets in the last session. They were keen to apply pressure to the Pakistan batting attack.

During the first session, Pakistan started well by getting a few runs on the board with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan getting a partnership of 98 from 166 balls.

South Africa’s bowling attack however was just way too strong with youngster Kwena Maphaka getting his debut Test wicket and also wickets from Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj.

Pakistan were 155-6 at lunch under serious pressure from the South African bowlers.

After lunch, South Africa came out guns blazing with Rabada, Maharaj and Maphaka taking the last 3 wickets within 4 overs, which ended the Pakistani innings on 192-9 with Saim Ayub not batting due to injury.

South Africa then enforced Pakistan to follow on with their deficit being 421.

Pakistan managed to put some runs on the board with Shan Masood and Babar Azam both scoring 50+, while South Africa tried to put them under pressure. They went into the tea break on 80-0 trying to claw their way back into the game.

The third session was a good one for Pakistan with them slowly starting to score runs and fending the South African bowling attack off.

Shan Masood got a century just before the end of the day.

The wicket of Babar Azam finally came a few minutes before the end of day 3. South Africa needed that because it looked like Pakistan where going to get back into the game.

The hosts would’ve liked to pick up a few more wickets before the end of the day so that they were in a more comfortable position going into day 4.
