South Africa were 44/3 after 25 overs at lunch, with a characteristic fighting knock needed from Proteas captain Dean Elgar and Kyle Verreynne.
After the West Indies won the toss and chose to field in the second Test match against South Africa in St. Lucia, the fast bowling trio of Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, and Shannon Gabriel capitalized on seamer-friendly conditions and dismissed the South African top order comprising of Aiden Markram, Keegan Petersen, and Rassie van der Dussen cheaply.
By lunch, South Africa were 44/3 after 25 overs.
Aiden Markram was dismissed by Gabriel’s bowling for 0, slashed a wide and short ball to Roston Chase at Backward Point. Gabriel generated extra bounce, which Markram was unable to control.
Keegan Petersen, facing high-quality fast bowling on a challenging pitch, was made to work hard for every run. He was dismissed for 7 by an outswinger from Jayden Seales, which landed into the safe hands of Jason Holder at second slip.
In at number 4 for the Proteas, Rassie van der Dussen battled for his 4 off 25 balls as he was beaten outside the off-stump frequently. Van der Dussen was, ultimately, undone by a fast in-swinging Kemar Roach delivery that he did not pick and tried to leave.
Meanwhile, South African captain, Dean Elgar, is unbeaten on 22 off 77 balls, resolute in his attempt to absorb the pressure created by the West Indian bowlers.
