Despite some rain delays, the Proteas continued to keep the runs ticking over. A Solid contribution from Keegan Petersen (64 off 124 balls), after losing his skipper after an 89-ball 70, Petersen teamed up with Temba Bavuma.
His partnership of 81 with his skipper was followed by 51 with Bavuma, but he lost his wicket trapped lbw despite coming down the track.
Bavuma then strung together 83 with Ryan Rickelton, who was unlucky to lose his wicket on 42. This partnership took the home side to 267-4.
The nation was holding their breath as Bavuma had a chance to reach that elusive 2nd career 100, but it was not to be, he was dismissed for 67 of 162 deliveries.
All-in-all it was a solid batting performance for the hosts, who will need Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder to put in similar performances as seen on Day 1.
