Pakistan were dominant in the second session. Despite Dean Elgar reaching his 16th half-century, it was an abysmal display of batting from the rest of the South African batters.
It started with Yasir Shah who tricked Faf du Plessis with a beautifully flighted leg-spinning delivery. It drifted and turned away from the right-hander, who edged it to the keeper.
Nauman Ali, on debut, added to South Africa’s misery, taking the wickets of both left-handers – Quinton de Kock and Elgar. De Kock unwisely tried to clear cow corner but instead scooped it straight to midwicket.
Elgar’s dismissal came after putting in hard work to get to his 106-ball 58, but a slight lapse in his concentration saw him trying to punch a delivery with minimal spin through the offside, and he edged it to first slip.
Temba Bavuma was run out after battling to a 67-ball 17, taking a risky second run that was not needed.
The Proteas found themselves on 179-6 at the tea break with George Linde on 25 off 50 balls.
