India beat South Africa by seven-wickets despite an impressive Aiden Markram century on Day 2 of the 2nd Test at Newlands.
Poor shot selection in the first session on Day 2 saw David Bedingham and Kyle Verryenne lose their wickets. South Africa were 85-5.
Marco Jansen helped Markram bring up his half-century but hit the ball directly to Bumrah for 11 after taking a slight lead.
Keshav Maharaj was next to lose his wicket to reduce SA to 111-7 with a lead of 13.
Markram decided to farm as much of the strike as possible, playing exquisite shots to the boundary including two maximums, one with a pull shot and one straight down the ground.
Markram brought up a magnificent maiden century at Newlands, in difficult circumstances. He took South Africa to 158-7 and into a 60-run lead.
This would have frustrated India, especially after KL Rahul dropped him on 73.
Markram’s valiant effort came to an end after 106 off 103 balls (17 fours, 2 sixes), when he hit the ball long-off. South Africa were now 162-8 with a lead of 64.
KG hit the ball directly to mid-off, SA 162-9.
South Africa was bowled all out for 176 with a lead of 79, to bring an early lunch by four minutes. Jasprit Bumrah picked up the final wicket to finish with figures of 6-61.
Kagiso Rabada, Nandre Burger and Marco Jansen took wickets, but it never stopped India from chasing down the target with ease.
India completed a seven-wicket win to draw the series.
This was the shortest Test match ever in 642 balls beating the 656-ball mark set by Australia and South Africa in 1932 at Melbourne.
