South Africa lost 3 wickets for 27 runs at the end of Day 3 as they chase a target of 148 to win the 1st Test against Pakistan at SuperSport Park.
Proceedings were delayed due to rain on Day 3 at Centurion.
The first ball was bowled at 13:40 with Pakistan trailing by 2 runs and 88-3 on the board.
It wasn’t easy for South Africa at first, but once they got their first breakthrough of the day, wickets started to fall at regular intervals.
Babar Azam scored 50, taking Pakistan to 153 when Marco Jansen struck the first blow. He went on to complete a third career five-for.
He was also responsible for dismissing the visitors’ other star player on the day, Saud Shakeel, for 84. This reduced Pakistan to 236-9 at the time.
Jansen was the major influencer for putting the hosts in a strong position.
Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha were the other two wickets to his name on the day, which reduced Pakistan to 172-5 and 176-6 respectively. This added two wickets to his tally on Day 2.
Dane Paterson (1-55) and Rabada (2-68) were also crucial to the Pakistan collapse, while Corbin Bosch (1-54) finished off Pakistan for 237.
Jansen finished with figures of 6-52.
South Africa needs 148 runs to win the 1st Test and confirm a spot in the final of the World Test Championship.
They lost three early wickets lbw – Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs. It was 19-3 after 7.5 overs.
South Africa ended the day on 27-3 needing 121 runs to win. This leaves Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma with an exciting challenge on Day 4.
