Lhuan-dré Pretorius and Rivaldo Moonsamy produced twin centuries to power South Africa A to a commanding 73-run victory over India A in the final One-Day match at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday.
Pretorius, the teenage Proteas sensation, was irresistible at the top of the order. He smashed six sixes and nine fours in a superb 98-ball 123, combining with Moonsamy in an opening stand worth 241. Moonsamy’s composed 107 off 130 balls (13 fours, 2 sixes) ensured the visitors made full use of being sent in to bat, setting up a total of 325 for six.
Prasidh Krishna (2/52) broke the stand by removing both openers, sparking a short wobble as South Africa A slid from 241 for none to 248 for three. Sinethemba Qeshile fell cheaply soon after, but middle-order contributions from Rubin Hermann (11), captain Marques Ackerman (16) and Dian Forrester (20), followed by a late flourish from Delano Potgieter (30*), pushed the innings to a strong finish.
India A came out aggressively through Abhishek Sharma (11) and the in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad (25), who had struck centuries in both previous games. Their fast start reached 31 without loss inside four overs, but once Tshepo Moreki removed Sharma and Bjorn Fortuin bowled Gaikwad, the momentum swung sharply. Tilak Varma (11) also departed as India slipped to 57 for three.
A fighting 88-run stand between Ishan Kishan (53 off 67 balls) and Ayush Badoni (66 off 66 balls) revived the chase, but Lions seamer Nqaba Peter dismantled the recovery. He removed both set batters to turn 170 for four into 201 for six, finishing with an excellent four for 48.
Moreki (3/58) and Fortuin (2/48) wrapped up the remaining wickets, bowling India out for 252 in the final over and sealing a deserved consolation win for the tourists. It was South Africa A’s second victory of the tour, following their remarkable 400-plus chase in the second four-day match.
